About the photographer.

Jerry Martinchek, Master of Photography & Photographic Craftsman, talks about wedding photography.

It's been a long journey from his high school days working as a newspaper darkroom technician and sports photographer, through the experiences of thirty-six years in studio and wedding photography but one thing remains the same: Jerry's passion for creating images that stand out from the work of other photographers.

"There are now 24 photographers listed in the local phone book," says Jerry. "When I started my studio in 1971 there were only six or eight of us. Unfortunately for the profession, digital technology has transfomed nearly everyone who owns a camera into a 'professional' photographer.  I feel I own a tremendous advantage over the vast majority of the 'new breed' competitors in that most have never developed a roll of film and have no idea of important details like  over or under exposure - some don't even understand f-stops and shutter speeds," Jerry says, "I feel blessed to have witnessed the early transition from black and white to the widespread use of color film, the shrinking of camera formats while the technical quality of films increased and now I'm having the time of my life creating images in the digital age."

Jerry has always felt that wedding photography is a tremendous responsibility and is not one part of your wedding where corners can be cut. He feels that "there is much more to the job than showing up with a camera. The professional wedding photographer must be able to work with people first; operating the equipment must be second nature. It's a time when there are no second chances."
